In which Annie is the ONLY one who braves the snow to come to work

In a company of nearly 40 employees, what does it say about me that I am the ONLY ONE who drove in to work this morning? Am I good? Stupid? Paranoid about not having enough vacation time saved up? You be the judge.

This won’t be a long entry, because I just spent the last two hours multi-tasking and closing comments to all but the last two or three entries. My spam comments have gone through the roof, and so far my blog-host and I haven’t been able to work through a solution that doesn’t involve money (in short supply here around the holidays, that’s for sure!). If I get some time over the holidays, I’ll go through and start deleting the spam comments out, but at least for now they should slow down some.

I’ve finished all the Christmas knitting, and am knitting past the armholes/armscyes for the Wobbly Ribs sweater back. I’m also working on a pair of strawberry mittens for DD Hannah, who lost her gloves at school last week. I’ll take pics and let you know how they turned out. They’re based on the Fibertrends hat pattern, but I’m doing these from scratch with no pattern, so I guess you could say that they’re my own design. Not bad so far, but we’ll see.

Have a fantastic Christmas, everyone. Wish me luck with my DMIL!

Stars in the sky

Thursday, December 16th, 2004

Tuesday night, Eric and I were flying back from Las Vegas through Chicago to Louisville. As we were coming into O’Hare, the pilot made a circle around the city and over the lake, allowing us to see the sparkling, shining city surrounded by a sea of sodium streetlights. It was one of the most breath-taking sights I’ve ever seen. The sky was infinitely clear–the kind of cold, crystalline night that steals your breath and opens your soul to the world.

And at the same time, dear Harry was listening to the singing stars, calling out for Jimmie…

Poor, sweet, strong Jimmie. And Harry, dear friend whom I have never met…I grieve with you. In a million years, I never expected that you would outlast Jimmie’s strong, sure hands and heart.

I light a candle for you both, to add to the stars shining so brightly in these clear, cold nights. No one should should have to outlive a mate…and now you have survived twice.

Farewell, Jimmie. I will look to the stars and forever think of you and Harry.

Leaving for Las Vegas

He got the job.

Dammit.

I’m looking forward to moving to Las Vegas (it was absolutely beautiful, and so pleasant!), but I am NOT looking forward to the next four to six months of being a single parent and getting the house ready to sell. I hate unknowns, and the next few months will be chock full of them.

DH reports on the 16th. Guess we have some work to do.

Anyone got any good recommendations for moisturizers/daily facial sunscreens???
