Freedom (I won’t let you down)

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Well, today marks my first full day without Eric, the kids, the dogs, the cats, or the house. So I spent four hours today applying for jobs. I got five good sets out for the “dream jobs” in the bunch. As the week goes on, I’ll start pounding the Internet pavement for more positions. There were a few with the City of San Jose that looked good that I’ll try to hit before or after work tomorrow.

So now I’m watching football and knitting up a storm. I got a Starbucks press pot onsale for $8.00, so now I’ll be able to feed my coffee jones without paying a few bucks every morning.

I’m flying out Thursday night to visit Eric and the kids for the weekend. I can’t wait to see them–and the house we’re trying to buy. With all the bank turmoil, I’m getting nervous about whether or not the deal will go through. But Eric has crunched the numbers a bunch, and it looks good for us. I hope so.

I’ve been enjoying talking to both mothers lately. My mother is forging ahead with what she has to do for the divorce, and Maggie is busting her butt trying to get ready for the fall fiber shows. It would be kind of cool to go to Maryland in the spring, but I think I’ll wait a while and hit some of the west coast shows instead.

Ok, time to watch the late game. Think good job and house thoughts!

The storm before the calm

It’s 5:00 ahem–do you know what’s on your list?

Plants–have to move the remaining plants somewhere so that I can take them to work or to Craig’s house.

Fish–have to drain the big (10 gal) tank and flush (?) the fish, and I have to move the beta with the plants.

Kids–no, I’m not packing (or flushing!) the kids, but I do have to pack the stuff for the next month. The good news is that the laundry is already done.

Me–have to pack everything I’ll need for the next month as well. Workand casual clothes, bathroom supplies (can’t forget the blowdryer), knitting stuff, chargers for gizmos, books to read, the small DVD player, chocolate (!), and probably a whole bunch of stuff I’m forgetting.

Perishables–have to sort out what will survive storage and what won’t. Chocolate chips: won’t survive. Cans: probably ok. Flour: probably ok in the right package. Et cetera ad nauseum.

Liquor– have to put all the open bottles and fizzy stuff in a box to take to Craig’s. Did my part for the cause last night by drinking the last of the George T. Stagg small batch 137.6 proof Kentucky bourbon. It was amazing. Some of the most complex bourbon I’ve ever had. It’s from the Buffalo Trace distillery. I’ll probably never be able to get my hands on more. Sniff!

Anyway, the list goes on and on. Time for more coffee. Wish me luck!

Holy Crap

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Yup, that’s what we’re dealing with here. A ton of crap. Or actually, more like 8 tons of crap. But it will all be in San Jose by the end of next week, and hopefully I won’t be too far behind.
