100406 – There and back again

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

So this past week has been a little busy, what with all the proposals (four! in ten days!), the youngest child’s broken jaw (on a Cub Scout trip–he did a face plant chin first and had a closed, non-displaced condylar fracture on the right side lower mandible), the trip to San Bernadino (Hi Grandma! Hi Grandpa! Hi Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins!), and all the laundry (ten. ten loads of laundry). So that’s why I haven’t been around here much. If it weren’t for Sylvia’s emergency brownies, I’m not sure I would have made it all the way through without biting someone’s head off. For the last few brownies of the batch, I ended up nuking them for a few seconds, then dropping a quick scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Perfect.

Did you know that Easter is a holiday designed specifically for people who have working jaws? Ever tried to eat a jelly bean without chewing?

The Paperweight is in remarkably good spirits, considering that he’s not allowed to eat anything more substantial than yogurt, jello, smoothies, and spaghettios. Last night he had a touch of bad tummy, but Eric promised me that he’d make oatmeal for breakfast this morning and make sure that applesauce was one of the snacks of the day. That should help things out. We go back to the oral surgeon soon, and that’s when we should find out whether everything is healing OK and straight. Fingers crossed.

I am making great progress on Cade’s Sweater, and managed to cast on and get all the way past the heel on a new pair of socks for me. It’s my first foray into picot-edged socks a la Claudia, and while the hemline was fiddly and not good car knitting, it was pretty simple. I’ll reserve judgment until I try them on and see how well they stay up on my “shapely” calves.

Tomorrow after work I will get to go see Joy and Lena with Sylvia…can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to that.

OK, work break is over. Time to get going on the quarterly report and then the next proposal. TTYS!
